Seek out riches of culinary heritage in Cēsis on September 25 and 26!

The slogan here is that the messenger of our wealth is every resident who has inherited traditions and continues to share them.  Cēsis, the Pārgauja Administrative District, the Priekuļi Administrative District and the Skujene Parish are all joined together by ancient tradesmen's traditions.  Home manufacturers remind us of them every day.  We are proud of our antiquity and Latvianness.  We have a wealth of colourful natural landscapes and lots of historical evidence that embodies an intriguing spirit of antiquity, as well as a modern self-confidence.  Ancient traditions have unified us, and each resident is a messenger of our wealth.

This is one of the greatest temptations for travellers in this part of Vidzeme.  All year round, people visit us to appreciate our historical and cultural heritage, the beauty of our landscapes, the peace of the countryside and the calm rhythm of a small town.  The Cēsis Castle complex is visited by tens of thousands of people each year, and cultural events in the town bring together people not just from Latvia, but also from abroad.

Visitors to the Priekuļi Administrative District can visit the Eduards Veidenbaums memorial museum at "Kalāči," where they will also find the noble Veselava Estate complex that is visited each year by some 2,000 people.  Unique sandstone cliffs, an ancient cult location known as Great Little Hell, and one of the most lovely cliffs in Latvia -- the Līči-Laņģi cliffs.  24,000 people have visited them during the past year.

The antique beauty of the Pārgauja Administrative District will be found in the unique wooden buildings of the Ungurmuiža Estate.  They date back to the 18th century.  There are also the mysterious Medieval walls of the Lielstraupe Castle.  The Straupe pony express brings together about 500 local farmers and manufacturers who have managed to process their own ingredients into traditional and tasty foodstuffs.  "Slow Food Straupe" is a powerful tourism brand that has been established over the course of time.

The Skujene Parish is a clean, beautiful and not quite tamed area.  The test is a road that has three curves in one place and can yank visitors up and down.  It is as curvy as the Amata River.  The Amata begins at Elka hill.  Peace and quiet is all around us, not least in terms of the white Skujene Lutheran Church.  Hospitality goes without saying, and our solicitous hosts will provide with guests with everything they need.

14 home cafés will welcome guests in and around Cēsis.

All events can be found under "Home Cafés" or on the "Map" (in Latvian).

► What are "Home Café Days"?
The yards of farms and other places that are not linked to dining and accommodations on a daily basis will turn into cafés for a day or two.  Guests will be able to taste local foods to learn new flavours, as well as to enjoy an interesting cultural programme.  Each farm has families and/or friends who will prepare a special offer -- flatbreads, cakes, casseroles etc. to be served with tea or coffee.  Each farm will present the name of its café, and the products will be served with characteristic cultural characteristic and stories.  There will also be various cultural activities such as handicrafts, games, playing of musical instruments, etc.
