This is a tour that will take you trough time and space, because it clearly reveals the history of the location since the end of the Ice Age, which created the impressive ancient Gauja river valley. Uncovered sandstone leads one back to the Devonian period, known as the “fish age” – here we’re talking about history that dates back hundreds of millions of years. Human beings arrived in the region quite recently, but they’ve also left lots of evidence behind.

The mouth of the most beautiful river of Vidzeme. On the seashore between the mouths of River Gauja and River Daugava, one of the largest dune ranges in Latvia with distinctive parabolic dunes overgrown with forest (wooded dunes) is situated. The Mouth of River Gauja is unique as it is one of the few major rivers in Latvia and in EU countries to flow into the sea naturally. There is no harbour or other hydro-engineering construction. It is a popular recreation area in the vicinity of Riga and Saulkrasti while, unfortunately, the lack of infrastructure makes it suffer from anthropogenic load. Not far from the rivermouth, hidden in dunes, there are pillboxes which were built in 1920 or 30ies as anti-airborne barriers. There was a whole range of them along the coastline from the mouth of the River Lielupe to the mouth of the River Gauja forming a part of the Daugavgrīva Fortress fortifications. The pillbox is made of concrete, ca 1.5m thick. Every year, on the 3rd Sunday in August, a lamprey festival takes place in Carnikava town by the Gauja rivermouth. Carnikava is called the Lamprey Capital as it is famous for its lamprey fishing tradition and generous catches. In Kännu Alpaca Farm you can see Peruvian alpacas, mammals with beautiful, soft coat which they are known for. While in this farm you can feed alpacas with food provided by the owners and pet them. You can also see goats, sheeps, rabbits and chickens. In the farm shop you can buy souvenirs and also products that are made of alpaca wool. Kännu Alpaca Farm is also suitable for family visits. |

Work on the arboretum, which covers 15 hectares of land, began in 1968, and it was meant to be a landscape park. The first plants were planted in 1972. During the fierce winter of 1976, sadly, many of the plants froze. In 1987, the park was redesigned. At that time it had 234 types of deciduous trees, coniferous trees and bushes. This study tour is designed to show Latvia's rye traditions as their central focus. This tour has been developed in cooperation with the Latvian Bakers’ Association. Rye is both the basis of the Latvian diet and a powerful symbol of Latvia's culture and culinary traditions. Itinerary emphasize traditional rye bread-baking and eating, as well as insights into the history of the rye grain from Latvia's earliest archaeological record to the present day. Itinerary include visits to working farms, grain mills and culturally and historically important locations. This study tour is designed for groups and may be adapted to the needs, interests and timeframe of each client. Tour cost includes meetings with experts, site visits and admissions, accommodations, specified meals, sightseeing, transportation within Latvia and guides-interpreters. |

Древняя, обжитая с V – VI вв. ливами территория. В 1226 году на правом берегу устья Салацы епископ Альберт построил замок, который до наших дней не сохранился. Развитие Салацгривы (так же, как и Айнажи) было связано с образованием порта. С XIX по XX вв. Салацгрива стала важным перегрузочным и транспортным узлом производимых в Северном Видземе товаров (особенно лесоматериалов). В советское время в северной части Салацгривы был создан Парк рыбаков с одним из лучших стадионов и эстрадой под открытым небом в провинциальных городах. В это время в масштабе всего СССР становится широко известной продукция рыбоперерабатывающего завода «Бривайс вилнис», особенно - шпроты. Салацгрива - одно из двух мест Латвии, где по-прежнему ловят миногу старинным методом, используя заколы. |

В 0,2 км к северо-востоку от Ливского народного дома, с дороги Мазирбе - Кошрагс виднеется «Сеппес». Хозяйственный амбар, имевший в углах бревенчатые соединения впритык, который в 20 - 30 годы прошлого столетия строил пришедший из Самсалы в Мазирбе эстонец - рыбак и плотник Екабс Яга. На другой стороне дороги виднеются «Калши» - жилое строение начала XX века. Восстановлено в наши дни, сохраняя в стенах дома кирпичи, которые обжигались в Брауской кирпичной печи Мазирбе. |
