There are six islands in the Great Baltezers lake – the Auzu, Priežu, Mazā, Liepu, Ropažu and Meldru islands. These are distinguished by a great diversity of plants, including forests of broadleaf trees, black alders and pines. The territory can be surveyed quite well from the side of the Ādaži Lutheran Church. The Great Baltezers lake is a popular place for fishing, including ice fishing during the winter.

This part of the Forest Trail gives an opportunity to see Setomaa or “the Land of Setos” which is inhabited by Setos – an ethnographic group with specific ancient traditions and a unique language dialect. Forest Trail hikers can visit the traditional Setos homestead and enjoy Setos cuisine. The forests of the region are especially charming in early autumn, when the ground is coloured lilac by the blooming heather. There is a good chance to pick wild mushrooms and berries. One of the most beautiful sections of this trail in Setomaa leads along the River Piusa, where the river is surrounded by sandstone outcrops. You will also visit the Piusa caves. The tour will end in Värska resort – with its sanatorium and SPA, which use the strengths of local nature: mineral water and lake mud. Värska mineral water is well known in Estonia and elsewhere.

The Bauska Nature Park runs for several dozen kilometres along the Lielupe River and its tributaries – the Mūsa and the Mēmele. This is a protected territory. The shores of these rivers contain some of the largest dolomite cliffs in Zemgale. These are protected both as biotopes and as geological monuments. The rivers are important places for river lampreys and vimbas to spawn. Tourists will be attracted by the cultural landscape of the area, as well as the cultural monuments such as the Bauska castle, the Jumpravmuiža park, the Mežotne castle hill, Vīna Hill, the Mežotne castle, etc. The rivers are used for water tourism.

Батарея расположена к югу от Вентспилса, недалеко от Приморского парка. Строительство батареи начато в 1939 году. Неухоженный, загрязненный и заброшенный военный объект – яркий контраст ухоженному городу. Приложили свою руку и охотники за металлом и строительными материалами. Жаль, что такое историческое и потенциально туристическое место находится в таком состоянии под стенами самого города.

Хозяйство «Рожлеяс» находится в Тукумском крае в Джукстской волости, где Восточно-курземская возвышенность сменяется Тирельской равниной. В 1989 году заниматься хозяйством начали родители нынешнего хозяина – Яниса Укша. Было создано натуральное хозяйство, где изначально выращивали сахарную свеклу, а позже – пшеницу. На протяжении двадцати пяти лет, в результате продуманной хозяйственной деятельности, «Рожлеяс» стало одним из крупнейших хозяйств по выращиванию зерновых в западной части Латвии. Хозяева приняли активное участие в некоторых проектах ЕС. Была закуплена современная техника, построены зернохранилища и ангары для хранения техники. Специализация хозяйства – зерновые (озимый ячмень, озимая пшеница), которые в данный момент выращиваются на площади в ~1200 га.

The Forest Trail leads through smaller paths, arching around Vangaži Lutheran Church and the Werewolf Pine. On its way to the Hunting Palace, it passes the garden created by opera singer Anna Ludiņa and then follows the Hunting trail. The first side ravines with the pronounced relief of the ancient valley of the River Gauja can be seen here. One of them is located by Inčukalns Velnala (Devil’s Cave), surrounded by small river channels of the old Gauja. From there, the Forest Trail continues through meadows and crosses the Murjāņi–Valmiera motorway, where the recreation park “Rāmkalni” is located. In this park, there is a café, shop and active leisure centre with a sledge track.

On this route you will mainly see pine forests of various ages, as well as the botanical plantation with 80 tree and 120 shrub species. By the end of the section, the landscape features sandstone outcrops – Devonian sedimentary rocks and habitats protected in Latvia.

Established: 1890. The Wagner Garden is located near Lake Jumprava. Its originator was Friedrich Wagner, who grew fruit trees, decorative shrubs and flowers. This is a site where you can try out ancient weapons – bows and crossbows (a reproduction of items from the 14th and 15th century), throwing an axe (replicas of German axes from the 13th century), and spears. Once you’ve learned how to handle those weapons, you can also forge a copy of a Medieval coin. You can try on copies of armoured caps and gloves and have your picture taken with a sword or battle axe. For larger groups, the enterprise will organise ancient sports and table games.
