Это не только важный природный, но и культурно-исторический объект, так как устройство для ловли рыбы, придуманное Курляндским герцогом Екабом Кетлером, закреплялось на каменистых ступенях водопада. Так появилась история о городе, где лосось (мигрирующие лосось и вимба прыгали через водопад и попадали в сети) ловится в воздухе! Для того чтобы обеспечить судоходство по Венте, во времена герцога Екаба приступили к строительству канала в обход водопада. В начале XVIII в. витала идея о соединении Балтийского и Черного морей по Венте, Неману и Днепру. По этой причине военнопленные турки должны были продолжать рытье канала, которому мешала доломитовая скала. Внушительная канава канала видна и сегодня. В 2012 году на правом берегу Венты построили деревянные мостки. Здесь надо быть в разное время года – во время миграции, как вимбы (весной), так лосося (осенью).

The Baltic Coastal Hiking Route sometimes runs through sandy beaches, sometimes along sections of beach covered in stones and pebbles. Sometimes the trail goes through coastal forests or stops at a fishermen’s village. There are many floodplain meadows, lagoons and shallow bays on the Estonian side, so sometimes the path goes along coastal trails and roads. In the end section of the route you will feel Estonia’s Nordic nature more. Part of the route runs along a sparsely populated seashore where you can be alone with yourself, but you will also be able to visit the most prominent cities. You will visit both capitals: Rīga and Tallinn. Enjoy the hospitality of the resort towns of Jūrmala, Pärnu and Haapsalu. During the hike, you will also get acquainted with the regions of small ethnic cultures: the Livonians in Latvia and the inhabitants of Kihnu in Estonia.

The five-story hotel with a tower at its centre was built in the style of Neo-Classicism between 1933 and 1936, and it is known as the "White House" or "White Ship."  The building is seen as one of the most outstanding structures of the first period of Latvian independence, and it was one of the symbols of the independent state.  The building has survived, as have some of the interior design elements and artworks of the vestibule, music salon, library and dining hall.  The Ķemeri Hotel is also known for having served as a set for the Aigars Grauba film "Terrible Summer."  In 1998, the sanatorium was privatised by the Ominasis Italia S.R.L. company.  Restoration has continued for more than a decade, and the building can only be viewed from the outside.  There is a garden on its western side.

Согласно древней истории, в период первой церкви, когда во время шторма проходила церковная служба, в море у старого кладбища тонул корабль, и священник с членами прихода – добровольцами в весельной лодке отправился спасать команду. Часть команды удалось спасти, остальных выбросило на берег. This park was set up to protect the landscape and cultural environment of the Haanja highland. At the central part of the park are the two highest hills in the Baltic States – Suur Munamägi, which stands 318 m above sea level, and Vällamägi, which is 304 m above sea level. The ancient Rõuge River valley (Rõuge ürgorg) is found in the western part of the park. It is 7.5 km long and up to 60 m deep. The valley dates back to the Ice Age, and it has seven lakes, including the deepest one (38 m) in Estonia – Lake Rõuge Suurjärv.
