The Livs are one of the Finno-Ugric nations of the Baltic Sea region, and they once inhabited much of what is Latvia today. The Liv coastline (Līvõd rānda in Livonian) has 14 villages (Oviši, Lūžņa, Miķeļtornis, Lielirbe, Jaunciems, Sīkrags, Mazirbe, Košrags, Pitrags, Saunags, Vaide, Kolka, Melnsils and Ģipka). The shores of the Great Sea and Small Sea were the starting point for the Livs and their roots. This is a place with special material and spiritual culture, the Livonian dialect, as well as great figures in the worlds of literature and art. The Liv flag is green-white-blue, demonstrating the spitefulness and endurance that is created by the winds of the sea. Liv things are amidst us. Here, between two seas, we find the Slītere National Park with its natural treasures, the Medieval Dundaga castle, the Liv coastline villages with their typical buildings and the aroma of smoked fish, as well as Cape Kolka, which is the most distinct cape along the Latvian coast. Among all of these treasures are special people who honour history, shape their future, and are delighted to demonstrate the unique aspects of the coastline and the special foods that they prepare to each and every visitor.
Home café days at the Liv Shore - Mazirbe, Pitrags, Kolka, Melnsils, Ģipka and the Dundaga Parish, with 14 home cafés awaiting guests.
