At the centre of this restricted area is the eutrophic Lake Tosmare, a former lagoon from the Littorina Sea. The lake and its surroundings offer protection to many plants and birds. At the southern end of the lake one can spot remnants of the former Liepāja fortification system, and to the West is one of the most important parts of that system – the Fortress canal. |

Dievnamu (atrodas Skujenes – Vecpiebalgas ceļa malā) 1872. g. cēla pirmais izglītotais latviešu arhitekts Jānis Frīdrihs Baumanis (1834. – 1891.), kas ir vairāku pazīstamu celtņu – J. Vītola Mūzikas akadēmijas, Rīgas cirka, Valsts bankas u.c. ēku projekta autors. Padomju laikā Māļu baznīcā atradās tukšās taras pieņemšanas punkts, bet mūsdienās – saglabājies tikai ēkas ārējais veidols. Baznīca apskatāma arī no iekšpuses. |

Unter Aufsicht der Landwirte kann man die Tiere füttern, streicheln und sich zusammen fotografieren lassen. Der Hof verfügt über einen Pavillon. This is an open territory which is 3.5 km long and 2 km wide. It is located on the left bank of the Lielupe River between the village of Pavasari and the Odiņi homestead. The polder was established during the Soviet era to obtain farmland, and back then it was used very intensively. Today, it is slowly becoming overgrown, and despite this, this is one of the most important locations in Europe for corn-crakes. A gravel road crosses the polder from the North to the South, and this is an excellent place to hear the songs of the corn-crake. |

The Boulder of Purmaļi is the biggest boulder in Rēzekne district and one of the 20 biggest boulders in
Latvia. It is located on the escarpment surrounded by the trees and the bushes. Perimeter 18,5 m, height 3,2 m,
lenght 5,6 m, width 4,7, surface volume 30 m3.

Pirms dodamies tālāk – Skaistkalnes virzienā, var izmest nelielu loku līdz Lejeniekiem, kas atrodas skaistā vietā – Mēmeles kreisajā krastā, 6 km austrumos no Bauskas. Latviešu dzejnieka Viļa Plūdoņa (1874. – 1940.) memoriālais muzejs dibināts 1968. g. viņa dzimtajās mājās „Lejeniekos”. Zemgales daba un vecmātes stāsti būtiski ietekmēja nākamā dzejnieka daiļradi. Šeit nokļuvušie var apskatīt ratu un etnogrāfisko priekšmetu kolekciju, izstaigāt Plūdoņa taku vai apmeklēt dzejnieka un viņa radinieku atdusas vietu netālu esošajos kapos. Bērniem noteikti jāiegriežas “Zaķīšu pirtiņā”. |

The excessively damp forests at this place include the Vēršupīte River bog, and this is one of the most diverse biotopes in Latvia in terms of the number of species that can be found here. The fact that the area is regularly flooded is shown by the fat roots of black alders – indeed, the place looks like a stand of mangroves. The wooden pathway that is the Dumbrāju trail starts at the Forest House for those who wish to examine the bog. The most impressive views are seen during spring floods or rainy seasons at other times of the year. The little river breaks out of its bed and floods a large territory. The Lake Sloka hiking trail is another place where you can study the Vēršupīte bog. The circular trail is 3 km long, and its beginning is at the Lake Sloka bird watching tower. |

Das Fischerdorf Altja im Nationalpark Lahemaa wurde 1465 zum ersten Mal erwähnt. Es ist ein traditionelles Stranddorf , wo die Haushalte sich nebeneinander entlang einer Dorfstrasse befinden. Jedoch stammen die Haushalte wie Uustalu und Toomarahva aus dem Ende des 19.Jh. Auf der Landzunge Altja sind alte Netzschuppen zu sehen. Hier gibt es einen Dorfplatz mit grossem Schaukel und der Krug Altja mit estnischer Küche. |

Der Name Ainaži ist untrennbar von der lettischen Seefahrtsgeschichte. Im Jahr 1864 wurde hier die erste Seefahrtsschule gegründet, in der auch die Kinder der lettischen Bauern lernen konnten. Es ist gesetzmäßig, dass Ainaži zu einem bedeutenden Zentrum für den Bau von Schiffen für Küstenschifffahrt und zu einem Hafen wurde. Das wirtschaftliche Leben der Stadt hat die im Jahr 1913 eröffnete Schmalspurbahnlinie Smiltene-Valmiera-Ainaži begünstigt. Heute ist die Stadt Ainaži eine kleine und stille lettische Stadt, die mit mehreren interessanten Sehenswürdigkeiten an der Grenze zu Estland liegt. |
