The fisherman’s homestead that is alongside the Kolka Lutheran Church offers a look at how fish are smoked and prepared. You can taste the fish and purchase fish that were caught in the sea (mostly plaice).

Vilsandi bāka sāka darboties 1809. g. Ja uzmanīgi palūkojas uz torņa, labi redzams, ka tas ir vairākas reizes paaugstināts. Tagadējās bākas augstums ir 37 m, bet gaismas elements atrodas 40 metrus virs jūras līmeņa. Bāka ar apkārtējām ēkām ir apskatāma tikai no ārpuses. Ja pa Vilsandi arhipelāgu ceļo ar jūras laivu vai citu peldlīdzekli, tad bāka kalpo kā ļoti labs orientieris daudzo salu, līču un pussalu labirintā. The restaurant is at the edge of the Vidzeme Highway (A2). It is a lovely log building with a straw roof and an antique interior. Dishes are based on ancient traditions merged with the requirements of modern clients.

On the right bank of the River Pēterupe is one of the historical areas of Saulkrasti – Pēterupe Village. It is believed that the village began to form around a chapel during the so-called Swedish or Catholic times. The chapel was named after the Apostle St. Peter, and therefore the river and the village also carries his name. Pēterupe Village can be considered the oldest village in the Saulkrasti region. The oldest witnesses of the origin of Pēterupe Village are: Rectory, Pēterupe Evangelical Lutheran Church, Outpatient Clinic and the wooden buildings in the old village centre.

On this trip you will encounter a rich blend of wetland, woodland and coastal habitats, when almost all the species have arrived and some passage migrants still remain, with the possibility to see around 200 different species. Birdwatching starts in the Gauja National Park with beautiful rolling relief, then goes to the eastern edge of the Gulf of Riga and Lake Burtnieks where there is also the chance of night trekking on the flood plains. Seda bog with its reed beds and flood plains is rich in wildlife. Next day canoeing along the Gauja river will offer a different viewpoint to see the birds, plus with luck some beaver and other wild fauna. Then you pass through oak forest to Lake Lubans. Its wetlands and fish ponds form one of the prime birdwatching sites in the country. A local speciality - fish-soup - will keep you warm. The site is also one of the first known stone-age settlements in Latvian territory. On the way back to Riga there is a stop at Garkalne pine forest.

The territory is established in order to protect the dunes and the seashore habitats. There are beautiful beaches and wooded dunes, and the paved Klaipēda–Palanga bikeway trails through the park, which is worth travelling at full length.
