This is a unique example of industrial heritage – the only open munition factory in the Baltic States. It includes Europe’s oldest pellet pouring tower, and it is still used for that purpose today. Tours are available for those who contact the factory in advance, and a guide will lead groups through the factory, the tower and the museum. Today the factory manufactures nine types of bullets for smooth-barrel weapons, as well as bullets for pneumatic weapons. The products are exported to Germany and other countries. |

Documents show that the first windmill was built here in the 13th century along with the Kuldīga Castle. During the rule of Duke Jacob, gunpowder was manufactured at the windmill, and it later became the first place in Kurzeme where paper was manufactured. The building took on its current appearance during the 19th century. During the Soviet occupation, a metal processing workshop was in it. |

No Marcinkones pa smilšainu meža ceļu (~ 9 km turp - atpakaļ) ar kājām vai divriteni (arī nelielu tūrisma autobusu līdz 20 vietām) var nokļūt līdz purva malai, kur mežainās kāpās un purvā izveidota 1,5 km gara dabas taka un skatu tornis, no kura labi pārredzama purva rietumdaļa. Pirms došanās uz Čepkeļu purvu, ir jāreģistrējas Dzūkijas nacionālā parka apmeklētāju centrā (Šilagėlių gatve 11), kas meklējams aiz dzelzceļa pārbrauktuves. Te apskatāma neliela nacionālajam parkam un rezervātam veltīta ekspozīcija. |

The office of photographer Mārtiņš Buclers was recently found at the Sauka Unity House where the Sauka trade school was located. In 2010, the exhibition was moved to the Sauka Parish Council in Lone. Mārtiņš Buclers (1866-1944) was a founding father of photography in Latvia. He established the first company in the country which produced photo film and paper. The exhibits are of particular interest now that we are in the digital photo era. The Sauka Unity House is closed and can only be viewed from the outside, but alongside it is a memorial stone dedicated to Buclers, as well as a monument commemorating the 150th anniversary of photography. |

The potter uses the black (smoke) technique to create his artworks, and he uses clay from Latgale. He uses no industrial equipment in his work, and the kiln is fired with firewood. You can watch as he creates dishware on a foot-powered potter’s wheel and talks about the firing process. You can work with clay and purchase finished products. |
