The Peppermint Hut offers various teas, cookies, candies, honey with peppermint and peppermint syrups. Periodically, new products area added to the range. Creative workshops are used to produce peppermint soap, plates with images of peppermint, decorative candles and many other things. The owner of the house also uses peppermint to produce powders and facial tonics. |

By far one of the most impressive Soviet military objects in Northern Vidzeme, this base has now been abandoned. There are buildings, underground bunkers, missile silos, areas of the firing of missiles, etc. This is one of the few remaining places in Latvia where a monument to Lenin still stands. The stone bust once stood in the central square of Alūksne. During the restoration of independence, it was taken down and moved to the missile base. We recommend that you bring a guide with you – otherwise it won’t be worth much.

The main building of the museum features an early 19th C. threshing barn with a dirt floor, the living quarters were added in the late 19th C. The museum also exhibits a smoke sauna, summer kitchen, granary, cellar, coach house and a dining house (formerly a cattle shed). All buildings have a display of tools and everyday commodities, traditional farm food can be booked in advance and handicraft workshops are available. |

The master craftsman produces wooden spoons of linden and birch, as well as sauna switches with apples. You can watch him at work, try your own hand at making a spoon, purchase finished products, tour a collection of spoons, and also visit the old farm buildings. |

This farm has some 150 hives of bees which are carefully tended by beekeepers. The farm also produces nectar plats such as buckwheat, clover and phacelia. You will learn all about beekeeping and taste and purchase beekeeping products. |

The Rauna cheese factory is owned by Ceriņš family, and for the past 10 years it has offered high-quality and nutritious products to its consumers – cheese, butter and macaroni. The most popular product is “Green cheese,” in which one of the main ingredients, fenugreek, grows in the factory’s garden. Fenugreek is a perennial with five leaves and blue flowers. While the new shoots are soft, they are dried in a wood-fired drying house. Then the fenugreek is ground up, sieved and added to a mass of protein that is put in thin layers in special wooden boxes and allowed to dry. After the fenugreek is added, the cheese gets its typical taste, colour and smell. Groups of 10 or more can apply in advance for tours of the factory and learn about how the cheese is made. |

The restaurant is at the bridge across the Salaca River, offering traditional Latvian dishes, as well as dishes from other European countries. Latvian cuisine: Sprats with egg, fish soup, farmer’s breakfast, cooked butter beans, chicken livers with mashed potatoes, Kurzeme stroganoff, potted farmer’s stew, crepes and potato pancakes with potatoes, stacked rye bread. Located in the south-eastern part of Piedruja and on the banks of the Daugava River, the rock can be accessed via the local path or a local land road. The rock was sculpted by Vilnis Titāns, who engraved the name of the Daugava River in seven languages – Latvian, Livonian, Estonian, Polish, Russian, German and Finnish. Opposite the rock is Druja, which is in Belarus, as well as a large island that splits the river in two. A temporary permit is needed to visit Piedruja. |

In 1944, between November 14 and December 9, there were fierce battles between SD and SS units from the German 16th Army, under the command of Police General Friedrich Jekeln, and a separate battalion of the Kurelians, under the command of Lt Roberts Rubenis. The battles were waged in the Ugāle, Usma, Renda and Zlēki parishes. Rubenis’ men were well-armed and organised. There were more than 600 troops, and the soldiers saw themselves as a national force which stood apart from the two hostile occupant regimes. This was the longest and most extensive battle in the history of Latvian national resistance. As the military force of the Latvian Central Council, the unit enjoyed extensive public support and confirmed a high level of morality in fighting for the restoration of a democratic Latvia. Atrodas 0,9 km ziemeļrietumos no Dzērbenes centra. Tagadējais muižas komplekss veidojies 14. gs. celtās un 1577. g. nopostītās mūra pils vietā. Muižas pils (18. gs. beigas, klasicisma stils) savā pastāvēšanas laikā piedzīvojusi vairākkārtīgu nopostīšanu (1905. g., Pirmajā pasaules karā) un tai sekojošu atjaunotni. 19. gs. beigās tai tapa piebūve – iespaidīgs četrstūru neogotikas stila tornis. Laikā no 1927. - 1975. g. pilī darbojās lauksaimniecības skola, tagad - Dzērbenes pagasta pārvalde, Tautas nams un mūzikas skola. Pili ieskauj parks ar septiņu dīķu kaskādi. No kādreiz iespaidīgā laukakmeņu žoga saglabājušies vien pils vārtu stabi. Dažādā stāvoklī (arī avārijas) atrodas citas muižas ēkas. 2010. gadā tika veikta pils iekštelpu un ārējās fasādes restaurācija. Iepriekš piesakoties, tiek piedāvāta gida vadīta ekskursija un piedzīvojums muižā iekārtotajā spoku kambarī. |

From Riga airport the tour goes straight into countryside to Jaunmoku manor, surrounded by an attractive park. Next day, birding starts at Ķemeri National Park, including wet-forest areas and locations around Lake Kaņieris and Ķemeri village. Then the route follows the west coastof the Gulf of Riga with some small stops along the way and longer walks at Mērsrags. Next you spend some time at Cape Kolka and its surroundings which is a prime migration spot. Visitthebroad-leafforests of Slītere National Park around the ancient coast of the Baltic Ice Lake and drive through Užava floodplain fields, then stop at the westernmost point in the country, Akmeņrags. The tour continues to Liepaja and Pape Ornithological Station and lake where it is possible to spend a night watching the owl migration if it has started. Then we drive through Zvārte wooded area and make some stops at fish ponds on the way back to Riga. |

In the Berzini homestead they bake exceptionally tasty wheat and rye bread in accordance with the old folk recipes. The taste and smell is the result of baking bread in a special oven which is more than 70 years old. It is possible to order bread, or, having booked a visit beforehand, to make and bake your own bread loaf. The owners will teach you bread baking traditions and use recipes from their ancestors to bake loaves in a true bread oven. |

Three little lakes can be found on the left bank of the Pirita River with many erupting “eyes” of streams, each with its own colour (bluish-green, white, dark). This puts together various colour combinations. These are often known as the most beautiful streams in Estonia. Some pump out as much as 20-30 litres of water per hour. It is said that the waters are good medical resources, particularly for the eyes. There are improvements in the area of tourists.
