This is a “peripheral” island in the Bay of Finland, 9 km from the Dirhami port. The special fact about this island is that it offers fields of juniper, a rocky and grassy seashore that is around 2 km long, and limestone cliffs that are a few metres high along the northern and the eastern shores of the island. These are designated with the words Osmussaare pank.

72 types of wild rhododendrons with 193 different species
This is the only specialised rhododendron nursery in the Baltic States. Specialists there work on different kinds of rhododendrons, seeking to produce decorative and winter-resistant types of the flower. The nursery also sells plants. In the facility’s pine forest, which covers 11.8 hectares, you can see a large collection of rhododendrons from all over the world.
There are 64 winter-resistant types of rhododendrons at “Babīte,” including “Alma Mater,” “Academia Scientiarum,” “Emeritus,” “Eduards Smiļģis,” “Dita Krenberga,” and others (these were developed by Rihards Kondratovičs). All of these are appropriate for Northern Europe.

In 1888, the building, provided for a doctor’s needs, was donated by Baron Alexander Alexei von Pistohlkors to the parish of Pēterupe Lutheran Church. Along with the building, Baron Pistohlkors also donated 6 hectares of land and 10 000 roubles for the doctor’s use. Arvēds von Engelhards became the first medical doctor in Pēterupe. In 1890, the first pharmacy was opened in one room of the clinic, serving people from a wide area; it remained in the building until 1895. This outpatient clinic was the very first stone building in Saulkrasti, the first health authority in a wide area, as well as the first pharmacy. Through its entire lifetime, the house was maintained from voluntary donations – at first by Alexander Alexei von Pistohlkors, then by churchgoers of Pēterupe Parish – therefore by the money of the villagers. |

The Slocene River flows through Lake Valgums and Lake Mazezers before flowing into the western part of Lake Kaņieris. It is part of a branched and swampy delta in which there are seasonal restrictions aimed at protecting birds. The wetlands which are alongside the river are difficult to access in many places. Before the Starpiņupīte was dug between Lake Kaņieris and the Bay of Rīga (the water level is regulated with sluices), the water from the river flowed along what is now the Vecslocene River all the way to Sloka, where it ended at the Lielupe River. The Vecslocene can be used by canoe boats only when the water level is high and then from the Old Ķemeri road to the place where the river enters the Lielupe. Between Milzkalne and Lake Valgums, the river is not navigable because of many fallen trees. During the springtime, the estuary of the Starpiņupīte is a good place for bird watching. |

Work on the arboretum, which covers 15 hectares of land, began in 1968, and it was meant to be a landscape park. The first plants were planted in 1972. During the fierce winter of 1976, sadly, many of the plants froze. In 1987, the park was redesigned. At that time it had 234 types of deciduous trees, coniferous trees and bushes. There are signs showing the Latin and Latvian names of the various plants

Во дворе и в хозяйственных зданиях выставлена характерная для деревни Латвии коллекция предметов быта, орудий труда, используемых в сельском хозяйстве машин и механизмов. Посетители могут принять участие в приготовлении пирожков с салом и хлеба, которые пекут в настоящей сельской печи, а также в сопровождении хозяина отправиться в познавательную экскурсию. Праздников посева и Праздников жатвы экспонаты – паровую машину, молотилку – можно увидеть в действии. К праздникам приурочены ярмарки сельской продукции, дегустации. |

Биологическое хозяйство по разведению коз и производству сыра. Сыр различного вида из козьего и коровьего молока. В хозяйстве насчитывается около 100 дойных коз. Хозяева – Рута и Стефан принимают посетителей (разговаривают на латышском, немецком и английском языках). Сыр можно приобрести на месте, на Калнциемском базарчике в Риге и в других местах Латвии. Продукция ‒ сыры из козьего и коровьего молока. Предлагаются экскурсии на ферму и сыроварню, дегустация продукции. |

Мыза Олуствере — один из наиболее полно сохранившихся мызных комплексов Эстонии. Центр мызы окружен парком в английском стиле и аллеей старинных деревьев. В различных зданиях комплекса экспонируются чучела птиц, деревянные лошадки и антикварная мебель. Открыты ремесленная и шерстяная мастерские, кузница,гончарная, керамическая и стеклянная мастерские и винный завод. В рабочих комнатах мызы желающие могут попробовать свои умения. В главном здании мызы находится туристический центр. |
