Meža māja (Das Waldhaus) – wurde 1933
gebaut und ist eins der leuchtendsten Beispiele
für den nationalen Romantizismus in Lettland.
Anfangs war es ein in weiter Umgebung
bekanntes Restaurant „Jautrais ods” (die Heitere
Mücke). Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde in
dem Gebäude ein Sanatorium für Kinder
eingerichtet – „Das Waldhaus“. 1997 zusammen
mit der Gründung vom Nationalpark Ķemeri
wurde es zum Haus der Administration vom Park
mit einem modernen Besucherzentrum und Platz
für verschiedene naturbezogene Ausbildungs
veranstaltungen.

The craftsman produces wooden dishware and other products, making use of many local species of trees. The technique is unusual and reveals the specific texture of timber. The artist has masterfully integrated amber, bone and animal horn in his dishware. He also engraves spoons with ethnographic signs. You can commission or purchase products from the master craftsman, who also restores wooden furniture. |

Dole Island is the largest river island in Latvia, and it is the site of the Dole baronial estate. The mansion of the estate was built in 1898 by the aristocratic family which owned the estate. Today the mansion is home to the Dole Museum with a rich exhibition which tells about the lives of people on the shores of the Daugava River. The adjoining park features ethnographic buildings, as well as lamprey and salmon spawning grounds. There are five unique cannons that were found in Salaspils when a new stadium was being built there. In 1910, a tsarist military camp was here, and a monument to Tsar Peter the Great was unveiled. One of the cannons is in the exhibition of the museum itself.

"Ziedlejas" offers sauna treatments and events in the contemporary design Glass Sauna, Smīma Spruce Smoke Sauna and Black Sauna, which is located in an unspoilt corner of the forest. The ritual sauna treatment includes heating, herbal compresses, herbal scrub, big beating, swimming in the pond, massage with healing oil and honey, vibrating with sound, tea, home-baked bread. The sauna treatment lasts four to five hours and is led by a sauna master. Various master classes are possible in connection with sauna rituals and the use of plants in healing and beauty care and the preparation of appropriate preparations. Bicycle rental is available, which includes access to the Ziedleju xc / enduro trails, bicycle training and bicycle guide services. It is also possible to organize and lead team building events, as well as team communication trainings. |

A monument to those who liberated Northern Latvia in 1919 was designed by Teodors Zaļkalns and is along the Inčukalns-Valka road. The monument contains text by Edvarts Virza: “As long as grain is sown in these fields, you will be praised and honoured.” The monument features a farmer with a sword and a horse. |

Established in 1900 at the place where the Pērse River flows into the Daugava (now the reservoir of the Pļaviņas hydroelectric power plant), the park offers a look at 17th century Swedish cannons and monuments from Medieval graves. Next to the high school in the park is a restored fountain, “Head of a Faun,” which was near the legendary Pērse waterfall during the 1930s. The waterfall is now underwater, but its location is indicated by a stone sculpture, “Girl of Pērse,” which was created by the sculptor Juris Zihmanis. A path leads to an 11 metre high wooden sculpture, “For Eternity,” by the sculptor Ģirts Burvis, and another sculpture, “Little Owl,” which is the work of the Rurāns brothers, both of whom are sculptors of wooden sculptures.

This is a traditional crafts centre that maintains ceramicist traditions, organises annual creative camps for children, offers exhibitions of ceramics and organises educational programmes about traditional festivals. |

The St George Lutheran Church of Subate is on the north-eastern shore of Lesser Lake Subate. The church was built in the Byzantium style in 1685 and 1868 and was commissioned by the owner of the Prode Estate, H.F. Osten-Sacken. This is the only church in Latvia which is reminiscent of the typical appearance of Protestant churches in the late 17th century. The small towers at the corners of the building are of interest. Inside you will find a richly ornamented ensemble of sculptures and wood carvings, including a 17th-century altar, pulpit and pews, as well as artworks from the 17th and 18th century and a bell that was cast in 1682. Some of the interior design was the work of students at the Stelmuže wood carving school. |

The tour introduces modern day life in rural Finland, Estonia and Latvia and includes visits to small farms raising livestock and producing delicious foods, and to ethnographic villages preserving the traditional lifestyle in a contemporary environment. The tour also involves sites of historical and cultural interest. |

In terms of shape, this is one of the most diverse areas of uncovered sandstone in Latvia. Found on the right bank of the Gauja river, the Sietiņiezis is up to 15m high. Small holes that can be seen in the cliff face are created by single and protected insects, which carve tiny caves in the cliff for their caterpillars. A circular and well appointed trail, with stairs, has been installed. It is 1.5 km in length and will take an hour or so to traverse. Objects are in the Gauja National Park.

The owner of the farm grows petunias, geraniums, balsams, asters, snapdragons and other plants, also designing beautiful pots of flowers. She organises seminars on biological farming. Visitors can purchase plants, pick black currants from a bush, and pick tomatoes from a vegetable bed. Tastings are available, and there are rabbits on display, as well. |

Located in the Mežotne Castle, the saloon offers fine and tasty dishes and beverages. Tours of the ornate castle are available, and the location has one of the loveliest English-style landscape parks in Latvia. Latvian cuisine: Potato pancakes, rolled marinated herring, trout with potatoes in their jackets, blood sausage with lingonberry sauce, grey peas with bacon, stacked rye bread with cranberry jam and whipped cream. Special foods: “Bauska Thaler” – pork in the form of a thaler with a sauce made with Bauska beer. |
