Das Gebäude wurde in den schriftlichen Quellen zum ersten Mal am Ende des 13. Jhs. erwähnt. Trotz der zerstörerischen Kriege hat die Burg mit kleinen Veränderungen ihre ursprüngliche Gestalt und ihren Charakter als Ordensburg bis heute erhalten, was in Lettland einzigartig ist. Die Burg wird auch als die älteste mittelalterliche Festung in Lettland angesehen. Die Burg des Livländischen Ordens wurde in Ventspils als ein militärstrategischer Ort gebaut, sie hat verschiedene Zeiten und Mächte erlebt. Auf einem der Turmgeschosse ist ein Fragment einer Wandmalerei mit Figuren von Schwerathleten erhalten, die ein Laienkünstler gemalt hat, der unter den in der Burg stationierten Soldaten der Sowjetarmee war. In dem ehemaligen Schlafraum der Ordensbrüder kann man bis zum Ende des Jahres Reliquien der deutschen und der sowjetischen Armee aus dem Zweiten Weltkrieg besichtigen, die von Geschichtsliebhabern in den Wäldern von Kurzeme gesammelt worden sind: Panzerteile, Waffen, Uniformen von Soldaten u.a. In der Burg von Ventspils ist eines der modernsten Museen in Lettland eingerichtet worden, das man individuell oder in der Leitung eines Reiseführers besichtigen kann. |

Die nach dem Bau der Straße Tallinn – Narva gefundene und rekonstruierte 36 alte Bestattungen (8. – 7. Jh. vor Christus) ist ein interessantes archiologisches Denkmal mit einem Besucherzentrum und einer geschichtlichen Ausstellung. |

Along the way you will visit the Courlandian Dune, the Sea Museum and Delphinarium and the most popular spa town in the dunes, Nida. From there you will drive to Latvia, where the Pape Nature Park offers a look at wild horses, and the ethnographic Ķoņi village is an old seashore fishermen's village. In Liepāja, it will be worth visiting the local market, which is more than 100 years old and offers seasonal vegetables, fruit, greens and flowers from local farms. Next you will visit an environmentally friendly farm that has 130 different types of apples and a wine operation that prepares wines from local fruits and berries. The farm uses biodynamic farming principles to grow beans and peas, as well as to breed livestock so as to produce tasty sausages. Next you will visit the lovely Medieval town of Kuldīga and its brick bridge across the Venta River. An environmental health farm will allow you to enjoy herbal teas and learn about various ecological cosmetics made of plants from the clean environment. Along the way you will enjoy the landscape of the ancient Abava River Valley and visit the Sabile wine hill where grapes are grown to produce local wines. Next you will visit the charming small town of Talsi, where you will find the Latvian Agriculture Museum. The tour will conclude at a farm which grows fruits and vegetables and offers syrups, jams and canned vegetables. You will complete you tour in Rīga. |

Driving out of Riga stop at Kemeri National Park for a boardwalk trail through enigmatic bog scenery. Further on the way there is a tasty treat - Pure Chocolate Museum. Ventspils is one of the most affluent towns with excellent infrastructure, well- restored Livonian Order Castle, promenade, arty fountains, manicured parks. Whole town is family oriented but kids particularly enjoy the Blue Flag beach with different swings, climbing and sliding options as well as Kids Town with activity zones for different age groups. A short trip by the narrow-gauge steam engine is a special attraction for kids as well as adults. Water pleasures can be fully enjoyed at indoor or outdoor aqua parks. Dievnama tornis tapa laikā no 1686. g. – 1688. g., bet 1862. g. to paaugstināja līdz 80,5 m. Baznīca nodega padomju aviācijas uzlidojuma laikā 1944. g. 27. jūlijā. 1954. g. Padomju armijas sapieri uzspridzināja ēkas atliekas. 2009. g. sākās baznīcas torņa rekonstrukcija un šobrīd tajā izveidots izcils interaktīvais muzejs (īpaši draudzīgs bērniem) un stiklota skatu platforma. |

This arboretum was established in 1996, when dendrologists Raimonds Cinovskis and Ināra Bondare joined with the local government in Rucava in experimenting with plants on the Rucava castle hill. The first plants were planted in 1998, and ever since then the collection has been expanded in the town centre and outside the Rucava Elementary School. Each year new and exotic plants are brought in from all around the world. A traditional garden festival is held each year in May, when rhododendrons and magnolias are in full bloom. |
