Der Nationalpark Soomaa wurde im Jahr 1993. zum Schutz der Hochmoore, artenreichen Sumpfwiesen, und Wälder gegründet. Auskunft über Wanderpfade und Dienstleistungen bekommen sie vom Besucherzentrum, hied gibt es auch eine ständige Exposition und Programme. Beim Besucherzentrum beginnt der Biber-Lehrpfad. Charakteristisch für den Park ist die sogenannte „fünfte Jahreszeit“ im März-April. In dieser Zeit kommt es regelmäßig zu Überflutungen.Während Hochwassers werden Kanu- und Einbaumtouren angeboten. Östlich der Straße Ezermuiža-Dūmele liegt das Seebett des alten Dieviņezers-Sees. Er war einer der größten Seen in Kurland:7,5 km lang und 1,6 km breit. Im Jahr 1838 wurde ein Kanal gegraben, wodurch der jetzige Fluss Melnsilupe und das Wasser aus dem See ins Meer abgeleitet wurden, um fruchtbares Ackerland zu bekommen. Die Einwohner von Ezermuiža waren bereits seit der Herrschaft von Baronen mit der Forstwirtschaft und Forstnutzung verbunden. Dūmele und Košrags werden mit einer einsamen Waldstraße, Apakšceļs (Untere Straße) genannt, verbunden, an der die Fahrradroute verläuft. In Dūmele befindet sich das Ferienhaus „Ziedkalni“.

The Varakļāni Estate has a mansion which is known as one of the most outstanding monuments to Classicism in Latgale. It was built between 1783 and 1789 and designed by the Italian architect Vincento Macotti, and it was owned by Earl Michael Johan Borch. Late in the 18th century, the same architect designed the estate’s lovely and romantic landscape park, which was one of the first parks of its kind in Latvia. The Varakļāni Administrative District Museum is housed in the mansion today.

In Kaltene sind folgende Häuser der Schiffbauer zu besichtigen: „Caurnāši” – die heimische Scholle der Familie Bertliņš, „Ilmati” – bei diesem Hof wurden 6 Segelschiffe gebaut, „Maizītes” – die heimische Scholle der Familie Štāls, hier wurden 16 Gaffelschoner mit zwei und drei Masten gebaut; „Dambekalni” – hier später befand sich auch eine der ersten Fischkonservenfabrik an der Küste. Von der Meeresseite kann man auch alte Anlegestege von Kaltene finden. Diese 200 m lange Anlegestelle haben 1936 die Meister aus Roja – Vater und Söhne Freijs errichtet. An dieser Anlegestelle konnte man 50 Boote anlegen. Heutzutage sind hier nur Holzpfähle geblieben – Meer und Zeit haben ihre Arbeit gemacht. Um mit der Spezifik der Arbeit, Schwierigkeiten und Herausforderungen der heutigen Fischer bekannt zu machen, lohnt es sich, nach Ķirķrags zum örtlichen Fischer Ervīns Vilciņš zurückzukehren. This is the largest exhibition in the Baltic States to feature the Semigalian material culture during the Iron Age.  There is a wealth of ornamentations, weapons and household objects, including the largest collection of swords in the Baltic States.  The exhibition is housed in the rebuilt defensive rooms of the wooden castle of Tērvete which existed here in the 12th century.  During the second weekend of each August, there is an international Semigalian festival which is the largest Medieval festival in the Baltic States.

The manor’s castle was built in the middle of the 18th century (belonging to the noble kin of baron Medem) as a huntsmen castle. Later, in the 19th century, it was rebuilt by adding a second floor. The kitchen was situated in the vaulted basements of the castle and when the food was ready, it was brought upstairs in the elevator. The gantry entrance of the castle (late baroque) and marble buttons above it picturing the coat of amrs of the union of Medem and Keizerling noble kins, is one of the most valuable example of arts monuments of the 18th century. To this day there are various  outhouses preserved- a  threshing barn, a granary and a smithy, as well as the park. In front of the castle one can see a magnificent oak, which was supposedly planted by K.Ulmanis. From 1837 the manor’s castle has also served as a place for Vilce primary school.

This is the largest cemetery of the brethren from the World War I period, and it is the final resting place for some 1,800 Latvian Riflemen, as well as some 2,000 soldiers who served in various Russian army units and were reinterred during the 1930s.  There is a monument at the centre of the graveyard.

The number of types of peonies in this garden is close to 400, and collect Dagnija Voika is  proud of one of the largest collections in Latvia.  There are 30 types of shrub peonies, and other flowers that grown there include bearded irises, Siberian irises, daylilies, as well as less common plants such as yuccas and eremurus.  The garden is open in June, when the owner organises a peony festival and offers tours.  The valuable peony roots are used to produce the PEO series of cosmetics, and plants can be purchased.

Reškutenu (Reškutėnai) ciema apkārtnē ir atjaunots neliels mitrājs, kura malā uzcelts putnu vērošanas tornis. Ja paveicas, pavasaros te var dzirdēt vai redzēt tādas retas un aizsargājamas putnu sugas kā ķikutu Gallinago media, ormanīti Porzana porzana, melnkakla dūkuri Podiceps nigricollis, griezi Crex crex u.c. Ciema ainava īpaši pievilcīga ir pieneņu un ābeļu ziedēšanas laikā. No putnu vērošanas torņa var redzēt vietas, kur akmens laikmetā dzīvojuši cilvēki. Blakus esošajā purvainajā pļavā bijis ezera līcis, kur tika būvēti ciemati līdzīgi kā Āraišu ezerpils gadījumā.

The owner uses Latvian products to make and offer more than 20 different wines, including some that are made of exotic flowers. You can taste and purchase wines made of berries, fruit, vegetables and flowers, including white jasmine, the elderberry tree, dandelions, the large cranberry, etc. There is a lily garden alongside which is the largest one in Eastern Europe and offers plants for sale.

The day lily garden offers a look at globally famous types of day lilies which can be purchased.  Many of these have been developed by the originator of the garden, Varis Baņģieris.  More than 1,000 types of day lilies can be seen and purchased.  The garden is open from 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM every day in July and August, when the flowers bloom.  The owner also offers tastings of homemade wine that is called "Vējkalnietis."

A small bakery that Jānis Kurpnieks, a baker with more than 20 years of experience, has set up in his father's home. More than 12 types of bread from cereals grown in Latvia. The greatest pride of the bakery is its wholemeal rye bread and sweet and sour bread, neither of which contains wheat flour. Rye bread is baked in large loaves weighing 8-9 kg and reaching up to half a metre in length. With such a loaf, the flavour “bouquet” is stronger and the shelf life – longer. Only natural ingredients and home-made sourdough, taken from the dough scraper (the dough of the previous baking), are used here for baking bread. The dough is fermented in oak tubs and the bread is baked in a proper bread oven, which is fired with softwood.
