Most of the great tree’s mighty branches are gone, and among those that are still there, the thickest ones are held up by supports, and the tree’s hollow centre is protected against snow and rain with a little roof. This is the thickest Common Oak (Quercus robur) in Latvia and the Baltic States. Indeed, it is one of the thickest oak trees in all of Northern Europe. The tree is a gorgeous part of the surrounding landscape. There is a car park and an information stand nearby.

Visiting a blacksmith has always been something special.  Does this job still exist, and is it still importance?  Some may wonder who is a blacksmith is in the first place.  The DUDU Nests open-air smithy will answer all of your questions.  The blacksmith will teach you all about his profession, talking about the tools and materials that are necessary, the relevant traditions and the everyday work of blacksmiths today.  You can forge your own nail to test the difficulty of the work.  The blacksmith will happily attend your event with his open-air forge.  This is perfect for students, smaller children, wedding guests or individual visitors.

The “Lamb Club” is a farm in Mazsalaca, and it is special because the sheep live in a real club!  The owners offer the atmosphere of a farm at which the sheep play major roles.  Enjoy mutton and sheep milk foods and beverages, feel how comfortable it is to read your favourite while sitting on a fluffy sheepskin, and, in order not to get cold by the campfire in the evening, you can purchase warm woollen socks and woven woollen cloaks.

The owners hope that people from Latvia and all around the world will spend more time at the farm, because accommodations involve a new glamping tent that is as close as possible to nature and the healthy rural environment.  Don’t lose a lick of the comfort that you are used to in your everyday life!

The owners, Ilze and Valters, will be happy to give you a tour during which they talk about herding sheep.  If you contact them in advance, they will prepare a tasty mutton meal for you.  The tour can also be supplemented with various activities such as games, quizzes and creative workshops at which sheep wool is utilised.

Kalevipoeg is a hero from the Estonian national epic, most of his stories come from Jõgeva County, where you can find his sword in the Kääpa River, there are his places of rest, stones he’s thrown, springs and bogs, ploughing furrows, etc. The museum has 12 themed rooms presenting Kalevipoeg´s legends as well as Estonian heritage. 17 wooden statues of the epic’s characters stand in the museum grounds.

The Dinaburga trail first goes downhill, and then it quickly goes uphill to the steep shores of the Daugava river. Among a set of gullies, there is the Naujene (Vecpils) castle hill – some 25m high and the “cradle” of the city of Daugavpils. The ruins of the castle are still visible, and a unique open-air model of the old Dinaburga castle has been prepared. There is a lovely view of the Daugava river valley, and the visitor can expect to spend 20 minutes to an hour here. Objects are located in a protected area of Augšzeme landscapes and in the Curves of Daugava nature park.

In October 1948, nationalist partisans who opposed the Soviet regime built a 9x6 m bunker in the forests of Īle for themselves. Five months later, the KGB attacked the bunker. After five hours of gunfire, 15 partisans lay dead, and another nine were captured. The bunker has been restored in commemoration of this event, and it is open to visitors.

The ruins of the Koknese Castle are found where the Daugava and Pērse rivers flow together. The castle, which is on a floodplain, was built for the bishopric of Rīga in 1209, and it replaced an ancient Latvian castle that was made of wood. The castle was blown up by Saxon forces in 1701. A visitors centre is near the ruins, and there you can carve a Medieval coin or rent a boat to sail down the Daugava. Make sure to stroll through the Koknese park, which is alongside the ruins.

Near the Priedīši homestead, there is a nature trail which allows visitors to study Lake Dziļezers and the surroundings. There are various lakes in this region which are found in a depression left behind by the Ice Age – Lake Dziļezers, Lake Riebezers, Lake Mazezers, Lake Auziņš, Lake Skuja and Lake Bruņķītis are all there. Along their shores, there are various kinds of forests, including ones with broadleaf trees that are under environmental protection. The trail is 3km in length and will take an hour or so to traverse. This is a part of the environmentally restricted territory of Lake Dziļezers and Lake Riebezers.
