The Slocene River flows through Lake Valgums and Lake Mazezers before flowing into the western part of Lake Kaņieris. It is part of a branched and swampy delta in which there are seasonal restrictions aimed at protecting birds. The wetlands which are alongside the river are difficult to access in many places. Before the Starpiņupīte was dug between Lake Kaņieris and the Bay of Rīga (the water level is regulated with sluices), the water from the river flowed along what is now the Vecslocene River all the way to Sloka, where it ended at the Lielupe River. The Vecslocene can be used by canoe boats only when the water level is high and then from the Old Ķemeri road to the place where the river enters the Lielupe. Between Milzkalne and Lake Valgums, the river is not navigable because of many fallen trees. During the springtime, the estuary of the Starpiņupīte is a good place for bird watching. |

На острове Доле (крупнейший речной остров Латвии) находится жилое здание усадьбы Доле (построено в 1898 г.) – родовая собственность Левисов из Менара. В усадьбе Доле создан музей с богатейшей коллекцией экспонатов, повествующей о жизни людей на берегах Даугавы. В располагающемся рядом парке (этнографические постройки, пути миграций миног и лососей) находятся и пять уникальных пушек, которые были откопаны в Саласпилсе при строительстве нового стадиона. В этом месте в 1910 году находился лагерь военных сил Царской армии и был открыт памятник Петру I. Еще одна из найденных здесь пушек находится в самой экспозиции музея.

This is a farm where there are some 10 different kinds of strawberries on many hectares of land. Anita Rescenko offers a six-day strawberry cure to improve your health. Pick and taste strawberries, purchase them fresh and clean. There are strawberry masks, dishes prepared with strawberries, clay masks and compresses against joint pains. Visitors can learn flower arranging, boat around the local lake, etc.

Материал археологических раскопок свидетельствует о том, что берега реки Огре были заселены ливами. Огре как крупное поселение и известный курорт образовался после строительства в 1861 году железной дороги Рига – Даугавпилс. До Первой мировой войны в Орге свои услуги предлагали примерно 300 дач, которые во время войны были почти полностью уничтожены. Следующее крупномасштабное событие произошло в 1965 году, когда в Огре построили один из крупнейших в Европе трикотажный комбинат, на котором трудились рабочие из Вьетнама и других стран. Современный город Огре прежнюю славу курорта пока еще не приобрел, но стал в известной мере местом застройки эксклюзивных, главным образом, малоэтажных частных домов. |

This is one of the most lovely and expressive castle hills in Latvia, with a very fine view of territory all the way to Lithuania. According to Ernests Brastiņš, a researcher of castle hills in Latvia, this was the site of the Semigalian Sidrabene castle. There are no improvements in the area.

This programme allows participants to learn about Latvian ethnography and traditions through meeting local craftsmen and having master classes with them in knitting traditional mittens and gloves, making amber jewellery and cooking traditional foods. There is chance to have a unique experience because of the authenticity of some places and traditions, for example the ethnographic house of living history Zvanītāji still retains its original appearance - massive ceilings, large family room with bread oven and natural, unpainted wooden floor. The carew chimney is still in the kitchen. The house is filled with characteristic looms, a family table, beds, wardrobe, cradle, various items and tools used on the farm. |

The restricted area protects the seashore meadows of the Lielupe River estuary, which are a very uncommon habitat in Latvia. The restricted area is on the left bank of the river, where one of the largest areas of wild swamp angelica is found. This is an important nesting area for birds. The territory is not improved for tourism, and it should be viewed from the Baltā (White) dune that is on the opposite bank of the Lielupe River. From there, the visitor will see a lovely landscape featuring the river estuary and the meadows which are around it.

Плунге славится парком князей Огинских. Парк смешанного типа был разбит на месте жемайтийской священной рощи в XVIII–XIX вв. Гордостью парка являются один из древнейших и крупнейших в Литве дубов, получивший имя языческого бога Перкунаса (Перуна), легендарная Плачущая липа и Пятиствольный ясень. По указанию князя Огинского здесь было вырыто семь каскадных прудов, соединенных каменными мостами-шлюзами. Уникальную живописность парку придает протекающая по нему река Бабрунгас. |

This route section takes you to the Dzūkija National Park – it is among Lithuania’s most forested and desolate nature areas –, and to the town of Druskininkai – a popular SPA and mineral water health resort on the banks of the river Nemunas. When in Druskininkai, we recommend dipping yourself in mineral water baths, enjoying the trip with the cable car over the river Nemunas, visiting the musical fountain, and walking along the river promenade. The starting point of the hiking route is the village of Didžiasalis, which is reached by bus from Druskininkai. From there, the route will take you through vast coniferous forests, rich in berries and mushrooms, and small villages. As you get to Druskininkai, the Forest Trail will meander along the small streets and parks of the historic resort of Druskininkai, crossing the river Ratnyčia and the forest park on the right bank of the Nemunas valley. Leaving the resort town behind, the Forest Trail runs on the side of the village revealing you the beautiful landscapes and the view of the Liškiava monastery on the other bank of the river Nemunas. Up to the village of Žiogeliai, the route goes along forest roads and continues along the banks of the Nemunas valley, surrounded by the vast Dzūkija forests. Towards the end of the route, climb up the Merkinė Mound and it will surprise you with breathtaking views of southern Lithuania. |

In Estonian, Luitemaa means ‘the land of dunes’. It is the seashore territory of the Gulf of Pärnu, 13 km between Vöiste and Häädemeeste with shallow waters, vast coastal meadows, the highest dune range in Estonia and the Tolkuse Mire (Tolkuse raba). The Tolkuse mire trail (~2.2 km) and watching tower are available for dune and mire sightseeing tours. Situated in Luitemaa Nature Reserve. |
