This is one of the highest points among the hillocks of the Selonian area of Zemgale – Borīškalns Hill. From the tower, you will see Lake Sauka, as well as the forests and farmland which surround it. The “Kalna Ļūdāni” farm is nearby, and its owner uses his livestock to help to maintain the surrounding landscape.

Das ist ein Gebiet von Lettland, in dem es verschiedene Hinweise auf Erdschichten mit wasserlöslichem Kalk gibt. Die ungewöhnlichsten Elemente sind hier die Seen Vecezers und Lake. Das Wasser des letzteren Sees ist über längere Zeit unterirdisch geflossen mit einem verbliebenen Seeloch mit mehr als neuen Metern Tiefe. Niemand kann vollständig erklären, wie das geschehen ist. Ein touristenpfad umrundet den See Linezers.

Workshops und Hauscafés sind überall in Estland verbreitet, doch hauptsächlich sind sie in der Region Peipsimaa zu treffen. In den Workshops bereiten die Teilnehmer mit Hilfe des Kursleiters 3–4 Gerichte zu, die sie nachher gemeinsam  miteinander genießen. 72 types of wild rhododendrons with 193 different species This is the only specialised rhododendron nursery in the Baltic States. Specialists there work on different kinds of rhododendrons, seeking to produce decorative and winter-resistant types of the flower. The nursery also sells plants. In the facility’s pine forest, which covers 11.8 hectares, you can see a large collection of rhododendrons from all over the world. There are 64 winter-resistant types of rhododendrons at “Babīte,” including “Alma Mater,” “Academia Scientiarum,” “Emeritus,” “Eduards Smiļģis,” “Dita Krenberga,” and others (these were developed by Rihards Kondratovičs). All of these are appropriate for Northern Europe.

Die Strecke führt durch Jūrmala - den größten Kurort des Baltikums, den Nationalpark Ķemeri, eine urwüchsige Moor- und Sumpflandschschaft, und das Urstromtal der Abava (Naturpark). In Litauen führt die Strecke durch Žemaitija (Niederlitauen) bis Klaipeda am kurischen Haff. Von hier aus setzen Sie mit der Fähre auf die Kurische Nehrung über. Die Nehrung ist ein 98km langer Landstreifen zwischen dem kurischen Haff und der Ostsee mit den größten Wanderdünen Europas. Bahnfahrt Šiauliai - Rīga - größte Stadt des Baltikums - UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe.

People in the Kurzeme region of Latvia have always eat sea, river and lake fish, particularly smoked fish.  Potted smoked cod, served in a clay pot, is a particular delicacy, as are smelts, sea pike, sprats, herring and salmon, available all year long.  Ladies of the house bake tasty rye bread, sourdough bread and tasty carrot buns, and they also cook various porridges from barley.

Dairy products, Summer Solstice cheese and “white butter” has an important role. Fresh goat milk cheese is prepared with dills and garlic, and goat milk cheese is also tasty. Menus will include local domestic fowl and meat dishes, including roasts, ribs, sausages, as well as more exotic dishes such as pig’s tongue and bull testicles. Fancy taverns will offer pheasant and wild game with mushrooms, lingonberries, juniper berries and wild herbs.

In Kurzeme you will be greeted with delicious pies, sheet cakes, poppy seed pastries and honey cakes, biscuits with poppies and cranberries, dessert from rye bread, lingonberries or cranberries and sweet cream.Blackberry dumplings are popular. More unusual are marmalades made from wild plants such as mountain ash, cranberries and even fir needles. Slake your thirst with aromatic herbal teas with honey and enjoy a mug of beer or some homemade wine.

The viewing tower is in the southern part of the reserve, along the Ļaudona-Mārciena road and on the Madona-Trepe embankment. Here you can view a very wide territory all the way to the Vidzeme highlands, including Gaiziņkalns Hill if the weather is clear. Tajā brīdī to uzskatīja par Eiropas garāko šāda tipa dzelzsbetona tiltu. Tagad to var šķērsot tikai ar kājām vai ar divriteni. Tumšajā diennakts laikā tilts ir skaisti izgaismots! Tā ievērojamais garums ir skaidrojams ar apstākli, ka pavasara palos Kazari palienes applūst lielās platībā.
