Die Wirtschaft Jokas befindet sich 4 km östlich von Turlava. Der Wirt Jānis Uzulēns hat das Unternehmen seit dessen Gründung im Jahr 2011 zielstrebig entwickelt und vergrößert. Der Stolz der Wirtschaft ist die Herde der Fleischrinder, die 70 Kühe bilden, sowie fünf Pferde. In der Wirtschaft werden Würste und andere Fleischprodukte hergestellt. Hier werden auch solche Dienstleistungen wie Bewirtschaftung von Wäldern und Fischzucht angeboten. |

The former name of the house was “Forstei” (Forester’s House). It was built using logs of the old Bīriņi Castle. The first owner of the building was Alexander Alexei von Pistohlkors, the baron of Bīriņi Manor. It used to be a house of the manor’s chief forester Pauls Moltrehts. The building served as the chief forester’s work place and residence, as well as the Manor’s hunting base. The building was rebuilt several times. It obtained its current appearance and also the symbolic deer antlers in 1891. During the times of the Independent State of Latvia the house obtained a Latvian name – “Meža māja” or “Forest House”. Ownership of the house has repeatedly changed. In the 1930s, the house became a recreation place for cultural professionals and artists. In 1937, the composer Alfrēds Kalniņš spent the summer in the house working on an interpretation of the score for the second staging of the first Latvian opera “Baņuta”. During the post-war period – from 1945 to 1956 – the building housed Saulkrasti Village Council, and during the times of Saulkrasti District it was the location of the People’s Education Department. Later the children’s sanatorium “Ugunskurs” was transferred from Jūrmala to this building and was renamed “Saulkrasti Children’s sanatorium”. Now the building is privately owned. |

This facility is in the historical village of Pape in Southern Kurzeme. Accommodations are available in an historical granary with a roof made of reeds. It is appropriate for inhabitation during the late spring, the summer and the early fall. There are three bedrooms, a small front room and a kitchen, with two floors in all. The building will fit eight people. This is an ideal location for creative camps, plenary sessions, master workshops and other activities. There are tenting areas for as many as 80 people. The Mikjāņi farm observes local traditions and offers traditional foods such as “herring on coals,” white butter with boiled potatoes, fish soup, etc., for visitors who apply for a meal in advance. This offer is only available to groups which register in advance. |

Ursprünglich wurde schon 1938 eröffnet, aber später mehrmals umgebaut. Neben dem Stadion ist ein Gedenkstein für Jānis Daliņš (1904 – 1978) errichtet, einen mehrfachen Weltrekordler im Gehen. 1932 hat J. Daliņš bei den Olympischen Spielen in Los Angeles den zweiten Platz im Gehen errungen. Auf dem Stadion fanden 1993 die ersten lettischen Olympische Weltspiele der Drei Sterne statt. Heutzutage ist das Jāņis-Daliņš-Stadion ein Stadion der Leichtathletik von nationaler Bedeutung, auf dem internationale Wettkämpfe stattfinden. Das Stadion ist also ein Platz für Sportbetreibung, das den Status eines für Jugendliche freundlichen Platzes erworben hat. |

Historians say that Liv tribes began to settle the territory that is now Latvia in the 10th century. They lived in Northern Kurzeme, at the mouths of the Daugava and Gauja Rivers, and from Ģipka to Oviši, where seaside fishing villages of Liv origin can still be found. Coastal residents have always eaten various sea, river and lake fish dishes, including smoked sole, Baltic herring, cod, bream or eelpout, baked lampreys, salted sprats, Baltic herring and common herring. Fresh and lightly salted Baltic salmon is a delicacy. Whole fish are baked on hot coals, including pike perch, trout, carp, catfish and European perch. Guests can participate in catching and smoking fish and tastings with bits of everything is available on degustations. Rye can be tasted in rye bread and sourdough bread, carrot buns and even pancakes and gingerbread. Barley buns are common in Vidzeme, as are tasty meat and fowl dishes. There will always be a pig's snout with peas or an oven-roasted piglet on New Year's Eve. Taverns serve wild game with lingonberries, mushrooms and other wild tastes. Side dishes include autumn vegetables, pumpkin, beans or grits, as well as sinfully tasty sauces. Enjoy traditional pies, sheet cakes, pretzels, apple cakes and honey bakes during celebrations or every day. You will enjoy desserts made of rye breadcrumbs, cranberries, lingonberries and sweet cream. Popular in Kurzeme are blackberry dumplings, and during summers, there are lots of desserts with fresh berries. This is on the north-western shore of Lake Lielezers of Limbaži, at the start of the Lielezers nature trail. The tower opens up a view of the lake and its lovely shores. It is worth walking the trail, which is several kilometres long, because it is an interesting one. This is part of the ZBR. |
