The tower of St John’s Lutheran Church in Cēsis, which is one of the oldest stone buildings in Vidzeme, offers a view of the historical centre of Cēsis, and a wide area all the way to Zilaiskalns Hill. There is also the western tower of the ruins of the Cēsis castle, one of the strongest fortresses of the Livonian Order in the Baltic region, and it offers a grand view of the castle’s park.

The studio specializes in creating folk costumes, weaving and all sorts of handicrafts, creating jewellery, patchwork, sewing and silk painting. This is certainly the thickest White Willow (Salix alba) in Latvia and perhaps the thickest one in the Baltic States. Many of its mighty branches are resting on the ground, and the enormous monolithic trunk has been split. There’s a small information stand alongside the tree. A pathway which starts at the Raganu cliffs can be taken to the tree.

Das einzige Kaffee in Lettland, das ein sehr ungewöhnliches Interieur – mit Miltärtechnik und Gegenstände, darunter auch der Stil der sowjetischen Armee hat. Im Garten vom Kaffee sind auch mehrere interessante Exponate aufgestellt – Geschosse der Artillerie, Flugzeug, Kriegsautos u.a. Es lohnt sich wirklich hier eine Tasse Kaffee zu trinken.

Der Name der Stadt ist in den historischen Quellen zum ersten Mal 1224 erwähnt worden. Im Jahr 1340 hat der Erzbischof von Riga auf dem Burgberg (heute – evangelisch-lutherische Kirche) der Letgallen eine Burg gebaut. Im Jahr 1802 hat das Landgut von Vecgulbene Baron von Wolf (im Besitz bis 1920) gekauft. Die Landgüter der Umgebung von Gulbene und Vecgulbene haben unter der Revolution von 1905 und auch unter anderen weiteren historischen Ereignissen wesentlich gelitten. Heute ändert sich die Landschaft der Stadt sehr stark, besonders in der Gegend des Weißen Schlosses, wo in den letzten Jahren große Restaurationsarbeiten durchgeführt worden sind. Auf jeden Fall ist Gulbene ein Ort, wo man neue Eindrücke sammeln und Kenntnisse erwerben kann.

Reinis Kaudzīte, co-author of the first Latvian novel “Times of the Land-Surveyors” (“Mērnieku laiki”) stayed in Pēterupe Village from 1913. 
In 1913 R. Kaudzīte bought a small property (currently No. 17 School Street), where he spent the last years of his life along with the lady of the house Karlīna Damroze. After the death of R. Kaudzīte, Karlīne – the well-known and respected midwife – continued to run the household. During Soviet times, the house was converted into a residential building. The neighbouring garden-house also acquired the status of a one-room flat, which in 11 August 1991 was turned into the Public Museum of Saulkrasti History. In 2008 the basic idea of the museum was changed and the house underwent redecoration. Now the museum is dedicated to the life of Reinis Kaudzīte in Pēterupe. The exhibition consists of furniture, crockery, household items, tools, photographs and other items of the early 20th century contributed by Saulkrasti residents.

This museum is devoted to the career of the ceramist Polikarps Čerņavskis. His work featured light, yellowish and very bright glazing. Guided tours of the museum are available. There are demonstrations of the use of the potter’s wheel. Ceramics can be purchased, and visitors can attend the opening of the kiln. Special works can be commissioned.

Als Treuegabe Herzog Jakob Kettlers an den polnischen König war das Gotteshaus von1640-1642 erbaut worden. In diesem ist unter anderem ein Beichtstuhl mit allegorischen Malereien (1691) erhalten, drei Altäre mit Schnitzereien im Rokoko-Stil und eine Skulptur “Madonna mit dem Kinde” aus dem 16.Jh.. Nach vorheriger Anmeldung kann die Kirche auch von innen besichtigt werden.

Den raschen Strömungen der Akmeņupīte, die von der Hochebene von Oberlettland durch Dviete fließt und weiter in die Daugava mündet, kann man nur im Frühling oder nach Landregen beobachten. In der übrigen Zeit ist sie ein flaches Flüsschen mit einem steinigen Bett. Am Bachufer ist ein Rastplatz mit Feuerstelle (und Holz). Seinen Durst kann man an Quellen stillen.

Militärversuchsfeld in Ādaži (ehemaliger Militärversuchsfeld der UdSSR Armee) wird auch heute für Gefechtsschießen und taktische Ausbildung genutzt. Ebenso ist es möglich (nach vorherigen Abstimmung) im Territorium das Auto- und Motorradrennen, als auch Testfährte oder Ausbildung der militärischen ( Bewachungs-) Organisationen zu organisieren. Die Besucher haben die Möglichkeit Pflanzen und Tiere im Territorium des Naturschutzgebietes zu beobachten. Für die Zivilpersonen ist das Territorium nur gemäß der bestimmten Ordnung zugänglich.

Der Svente - Naturpark liegt im mittleren Teil des Augšzeme-Hochlandes mit dem See Svente in seinem Zentrum. Das ist einer der saubersten Seen in Lettland. Der Egļukalns - Berg bietet von seinem Aussichtsturm einen der schönsten Blicke in ganz Zemgalen. Besucher können die Hügel und Seen des Svente - Gebietes bestaunen. Der Egļukalns - Berg hat sowohl Skipisten als auch einen Naturpfad.

The Lake Lubāns, wetland of Lubāns. Lubāns (80.7 km2) is the largest lake in Latvia and the most popular lake and wetland in Europe. The lake and the wetland has biodiversity; a unique place not only in Latvia, but also internationally. Nature Reserve is included in the European Union network of protected areas and NATURA 2000 under the Ramsar Convention criteria as the wetland of international importance. Lubāns wetland, called marshy meadows, includes bogs, wet meadows and wet forests. In autumn and spring the lake attracts thousands of migratory waterfowl which is easily to wach from the bird observation towers or the terrace of water tourism development center.
