November 1919 im Kampf gegen der Truppen der Bermondts Armee nahe der ehemaligen Schule Skujas gefallen und vermisst wurden. Das Denkmal (Autor – Nikolajs Voits, Autor des Flachreliefs – Mārtiņš Šmalcs, Berater – Kārlis Zāle) wurde am 24. Oktober 1937 eröffnet und 2009 erneuert.

This is a site where you can try out ancient weapons – bows and crossbows (a reproduction of items from the 14th and 15th century), throwing an axe (replicas of German axes from the 13th century), and spears. Once you’ve learned how to handle those weapons, you can also forge a copy of a Medieval coin. You can try on copies of armoured caps and gloves and have your picture taken with a sword or battle axe. For larger groups, the enterprise will organise ancient sports and table games.

In 1916, during the German military occupation of Latvia, prisoners of war were put to work in installing narrow-gauge railroads via which the Germans exported Latvian timber. A narrow-gauge rail network was built through the forests and across the swamps of the Viesīte area. The track width was round 600 mm, and there was a total of 130 km of tracks to connect Viesīte (the central station) to Nereta, Aknīste, Jēkabpils and Daudzeva. The train was used after world War II to transport timber and passengers. The last trip along the line occurred on August 31, 1972. You can tour the museum individually or with the assistance of a guide. You’ll see an Mi-635 locomotive, wagons for passengers and cargo, a platform to transport timber materials, and two trolleys.

Hier befindet sich ein Gedenkstein für K. Valdemārs, der von den Verdiensten von K. Valdemārs für den Werdegang und die Entwicklung der Republik Lettland zeugt. An dieser Stelle befand sich einst die Seefahrtschule von Roja bzw. Lubezere und neben der Schule – ein Lehrerhaus, das bis heutzutage erhalten ist. Jetzt sind hier die Privatpraxen der Familienärzte von Roja. Die Seefahrtschule existierte vom Jahr 1873 bis zum Jahr 1915, aber während des Ersten Weltkriegs vernichtet wurde. Die Seefahrtschule bereitete die Steuermänner der Küstenschifffahrt vor. Hier konnte man kostenlos und auf Lettisch lernen. Lettische Seeleute waren in Russland und im Ausland sogar auf dem amerikanischen Kontinent bekannt. Sie wurden wegen der Sachkenntnis, Ehrsamkeit und Ergebenheit geehrt. (Die Quelle: Roja TIZ)
