The true country ice cream at Dviete is provided by a family company which makes ice cream from locally sourced milk and barriers. There are no E-substances, no plant oils, and less sugar than is common. The cows which provide the milk are not kept in sheds. They graze in the biological pastures of the Dviete wetlands. They are known as “happy cows,” and the milk ensures a unique taste for the ice cream that is made of it. The café offers homemade ice cream and waffles, as well as delicious coffee in a lovely and well-appointed place from which you can see the lovely and extensive Dviete wetlands. Groups can contact the ice cream café to arrange for tastings or master classes on how ice cream is made. |

The wooden building was erected in the late 19th century and features a museum which demonstrates the way in which people lived more than 100 years ago. Exhibits include household objects, the Rucava folk costume, socks and decorated mittens. Various events involving discussions, singing, games, dancing and weaving are organised, as are cultural and educational programmes such as “Evening Activities” and “A Rucava Banquet” with local foods from lower Kurzeme. The Jaunpils Crafts House opened on May 10, 2015, and it is home to a group of weavers from Jaunpils that was established in 1970, as well as the “Dzīpars” organisation. The group is led by a master weaver, Velga Pavlovska, who is happy to share her knowledge with the 18 women who are part of the group. She organises the work of women who do handicrafts, and she also conducts tours and creative workshops. Visitors can learn about the work of weavers and other master handicraft specialists, take part in educational master classes, go on tours and purchase various souvenirs. |
