The Daugavgrīva Fortress and Events NearbyIf something collapsed or fell over, it was just left where it was. Perhaps the aim was to mislead NATO spy satellites or undesirable passers-by – nothing was there but a bunch of ruins, after all.

Why the Olympics Were not Held in Latvia – Submarine Repairs at the Baltic Naval Fleet Repair Plant in DaugavgrīvaRight alongside it is Mangaļsala island, where there were special antennae used to listen in on the conversations of people in NATO aircraft above the Baltic Sea. It may be that there were other nearby things which the Soviet military wanted to keep secret.
