The Kemeri National Park

Practical information

Total distance walking 25 km

Recommended season:  June-August.  The wooden pathway trail in the great swamp will be particularly lovely in the spring and fall.  If bird watching is the aim, the most appropriate times are late April, May, late September and early October.

Distance from Rīga:  45 km
Logistics:  This is a circular route.  Ķemeri can easily be reached by train or bus (along the P128 road).
Alternatives:  You can continue your hike to the Kaņieris castle hill trail (+7 km), extend it to the Great Ķemeri Swamp nature trail (+11 km there and back), go down the green dune routes between Ķemeri and Antiņciems (marked in nature), or you can hike along the shore from Jaunķemeri and Jūrmala (+14 km to Dubulti).
Note:  Please use sidewalks in populated areas.  During wet weather, wooden pathways can be slippery.  There are leisure facilities with benches and tables, as well as information stands along the nature trails.
Points of interest:  The Great Ķemeri Swamp nature trail, the Ķemeri train station, Raganu swamp and Kaņieris castle hill trail, Lake Kaņieris, the Riekstusala peninsula viewing tower and reed pathway, the Lapmežciems Museum and Lake Sloka hiking trail, the “Forest House” environmental education centre, Ķemeri park, Ķemeri sanatorium, “Ķirzaciņa” sulphurous spring, wetlands, mossy swamps, and the wetlands and sulphurous streams of the Vēršupīte River.
