Shores of the Daugava by train and on foot

Route options:



1.  Salaspils:  Rīga HES dam-St George Church ruins-Salaspils park-National Botanic Gardens (~6 km);

2.  Ikšķile:  Ikšķile Lutheran Church-ruins of the Ikšķile church on St Meinard Island-winemaker Linards Liberts (contact him in advance) (~7 km);

3.  Ogre:  A) Blue hills of Ogre with a viewing tower (~8 km); b) Central Ogre and the Ogre Museum of History and Art (~1-2 km); c) Ogre stage and “Lazdukalni” dendrology park (~7 km);

4.  Lielvārde:  Rembates park-Uldevens wood castle-Andrejs Pumpurs Museum-Lielvārde park with the Lielvārde Lutheran Church, a castle hill, castle ruins, etc. (~7 km);

5.  Skrīveri dendrology park (~11 km);

6.  Skrīveri:  Skrīveri homemade ice cream-Skrīveri Catholic Church-Andrejs Upītis Memorial Museum-Skrīveri “Gotiņa” candy factory-Aizkraukle castle hill (Kraukļu hills)-Aizkraukle Lutheran Church (~11 km); you can continue down the Daugava trails to Aizkraukle (+9 km);

7.  Aizkraukle:  Aizkraukle Lutheran Church-Catholic Church-“Kalna ziedi” Museum of History and Art-remnants of a sacrificial oak tree stump (~7 km);

8.  Koknese:  a) Koknese Lutheran Church-Koknese park-Koknese castle ruins-Koknese Estate-SIA Kāpiņa leather shop (~7 km); b) Koknese park-Likteņdārzs garden (~10 km);

9.  Pļaviņas:  St Peter’s Lutheran Church-Daugava shore promenade-Friendship park-Swedish fortifications-Aiviekste River inflow into Daugava River (~6 km);

10.  Krustpils:  a) Krustpils Lutheran Church-Krustpils castle-Freedom Monument-Ādamsons island (~4 km); b) continue along across the Daugava to the “Sēļu seta” museum-St Michael’s Lutheran Church-Unity Square, Daugava shore promenade-Orthodox cloister and church-Strūve park (~12 km).
