Countryside bounty

There are more than 300 "Countryside Bounty" farms in Latvia open for visitors - some of them have set opening hours, offer  a tour of the farm, produce tasting, or try one's hand at different crafts. At other farms, the hosts will not be able to spend a lot of time with visitors, however, you will have an opportunity to buy healthy, well-tasting, fresh, attractive or practical things home grown and hand made things.

Types of the "Countryside Bounty" farms


Animal farms
- livestock, wild animals, decorative animals, processed products which can be tasted and purchased.

Mushroom growers
- shiitake mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, wild mushrooms, with mushroom picking, tasting, purchase of products and recipes.

Craftsmen
- ceramics artists, stone cutters, carvers, weavers, basket-makers, copers, blacksmiths, leather processors, jewellry makers andn instrument makers. Workshops can be visited, guests can try their hand at the crafts, and products can be bought.

Biological and health farms
- medicinal plants, teas, tasting and purchase of biological products, healts and sauna treatments, an opportunity to learn ancient skills (churning butter, baking bread).

Growers of decorative plants
- plant growing facilities, decorative gardens, seeds, consultations, purchase of seedlings and seeds.

Growers of food products and food producers
- berries, fruit, grains and vegetables, cheese, wine, bread, honey, kvass - tasting and purchase.

Fish farms and fishermen
- fish ponds, fishing, rides in fishing boats, tasting and purchase of products.

Food producer

- bakers, pastry cooks, beekeepers, wine brewers, dairy and meat producers.


Country kitchens

- pubs, small cafes, restaurants and other establishments in the countryside and small towns offering meals from fresh country produce and using traditional recipes. Taste the difference of Latvian regions
Sauna  - inseparable from the country way of life and from trips to the countryside

Opening hours and arranging a visit:


Please always arrange your visit in advance. Please be aware that not all of the hosts speak fluent English, German or other foreign languages. Please inquire when you are making arrangements for visits. The phone number and address is shown by each facility under the button "info". 
"Lauku ceļotājs" can arrange an itinerary for 1 or 2 day tour, visiting open farms and other places of interest.

Entrance fees:


Ask about entrance fees when arranging your visit. Some "Countryside Bounty" farms have set entrance fees, others accept donations or ask no entrance fee at all. If there is no entrance fee, we suggest you buy some of tehir products instead.
