Juris holds a master’s degree in biology from the University of Latvia. He’s a great lover of the environment and bicycled all around the three Baltic States when he was a student. He has worked as a tour guide, but also as a consultant for the Environmental Protection Ministry and the Economics Ministry when it comes to policies related to tourism and the protection of natural resources. Juris has worked for the Country Traveller association for nearly 10 years, focusing on practical aspects of tourism in restricted and NATURA 2000 territories. Since 2003, he has been an instructor at the Vidzeme University College, where he teaches students about tourism and environmental issues, ecological tourism, and practical examples of sustainable tourism. Juris is the author of more than 200 published works, including both popular and scholarly papers, as well as more than 20 tourist guides and maps. He has also been co-author of several books.
