This territory is around 9 square kilometres in size and is found to the North of the village of Kūdra, where the so-called old peat quarries are found. Peat was extracted here during the first period of Latvian independence. Today the territory is overgrown, preserving the old and flooded quarries which offer a very unusual landscape. The best way to examine them is on foot or bike, taking the road from the Kūdra railroad station which leads to Lake Sloka. |

The Daugava is the largest river in Latvia and the river of destiny for the Latvian people. Since the end of the Ice Age, plants and animals travelled into what is now Latvia along the Daugava River valley, followed then by humans. The shores of the river have some of the oldest settlements in Latvia, as well as a true wealth of different kinds of plants. The density of outstanding cultural and historical monuments is why tourists love the shores of the river. The Rīga-Daugavpils rail line offers comfortable travel between Rīga and Jēkabpils. The space is on the second floor of the Jūrkalne library, featuring traditional objects from Jūrkalne and the Suiti people, as well as several looms where locals organise creative workshops. Contact the chamber in advance to arrange for a guide who will tell you all about the culture and traditions of the Suiti and present a film about them. |

Roman Catholic Church of Divine Grace – On 19 April 1998, the so-called “White Sunday” or the Day of Divine Grace, Saulkrasti Roman Catholic Church of Divine Grace was consecrated. The building is 24 m long and its tower is 16 m high. The 300-seat church was designed by the architect Jānis Šrēders. The image of Christ on the altarpiece was derived from the vision of the saint, Sister Faustina, of 22 February 1931 in a monastery in Poland. The altarpiece was created by the artist Ēriks Pudzēns. 14 paintings on the walls of the church depict Christ’s path of suffering from conviction to resurrection. The altar is built of ash. On 2 August 1998, a 7.38 m tall cross was consecrated by Saulkrasti Roman Catholic Church of Divine Grace. At night this cross is illuminated. The cross is similar to the cross of Golgotha in Jerusalem where Jesus Christ was crucified. |

Meklējams 0,3 km no Līvānu dzelzceļa stacijas – Fabrikas un Stacijas ielu krustojuma tuvumā. Ideja par Līvānu atbrīvošanas pieminekli radās jau 1929. g., taču to īstenoja 1935. gadā (arhitekts Pāvils Dreimanis). Tā galvenais elements bija 15 tonnas smags Krievijas armijas pamests lielgabala stobrs. 1958. gadā pieminekli iznīcināja, jo tas nebija „tīkams” padomju varai. No jauna to atklāja 2004. gadā. Piemineklis veltīts brīvības cīņās kritušo latviešu kareivju piemiņai, kuri 1919. g. ieņēma un atbrīvoja pilsētu no lieliniekiem. |

The bakery and cafe in Saulkrasti – not far from Saulkrasti railway station. The baker offers pierogi, cakes and other baked goods, as well as dishes for all meals. A second café can be found at Raiņa Street 7 in Saulkrasti. Latvian cuisine: Cold soup, potato salad, sauerkraut, homemade steak haché, grey peas and bacon. Началом набережной на улице Остас в восточной ее части служит «Тиргоню дарзс» (здесь же Вентспилсский ТИЦ) и Юракменс. Is an ancient Courlandian castle hill and is found in the very centre of Alsunga. It was named in 1659 when General Berg from Kurzeme put cannons on it to attack Swedish forces that had fortified themselves in the Alsunga castle. The hill is 8 to 10 metres high and 24 x 54 metres wide, offering a lovely view of the St Michael Roman Catholic Church, as well as the Alsunga windmill lake that is alongside it. There is a distinct terrace around the hill, and it once was the foundation of wooden defensive structures. On the other side of the street, to the West of the castle hill, is a cemetery with fire graves of Courlandians that date back to the 11th to 13th century. Archaeologists examined the area during the middle part of the last century. The Suiti celebrate Easter and other holidays on the hill. |
