Goričko Nature Park, Slovenia

Stanka Dešnik graduated in landscape architecture from Ljubljana University in 1995. With professional work she started in 1985 in her city of birth, Murska Sobota, in the Institute for Economy and Urbanism. For 17 Years she has been engaged with landscape planning work, which has covered the area in Pomurje Region between the three borders of Austria, Hungary and Croatia. After the Iron curtain fell in 1989, the activities around cross border cooperation started, and in 1992 the idea a tri-lateral Nature Park "Goričko-Raab-Őrség" was born. To push this idea further, Stanka has carried out several projects supported by EU co-financing fonds. Since 2004 Stanka has been working for the public institute of Nature Park Goričko. Stanka joined the Green Belt initiative in August
2004 in Sarod when the first Green Belt meeting on pan-european level took place. Since then, she is the Green Belt national focal point for Slovenia and has worked on several cross border projects connected with Greenbelt Idea, like the INTERREG Project “Green Belt”. Nature tourism is one of the main topics next to nature conservation in "Goričko-Raab-Őrség".
