Usi, Baker of traditional Latvian pastries
The owners of this company are prepared to offer families and small groups (up to five people at a time) the chance to watch how a very traditional dish from Northern Kurzeme - the sklandu rausis (a carrot-based pastry) - is prepared. Visitors are welcome to take part in the process. The owners will talk all about how this dish and other traditional regional dishes are prepared. Recipes are available along with useful advice and opportunities to taste the pastries. Accommodations are also available.

Bees from approximately 300 hives use the meadows of the Bitnieki farm and of its surroundings to collect honey. Beekeeping products, including wax candles, propolis, flower pollen, and honey from heather, buckwheat, linden and dandelion are all on sale. Honey tastings are also available.

This is a farm which produces four kinds of honey, chocolate and cottage cheese cakes, using only ingredients which can be purchased in Latvia. There are no preservatives in these cakes. Visitors will be told about the baking of tortes and given a chance to taste the cakes, too.

The owner of this farm has around 50 hives of bees. Visitors have a unique opportunity to watch how queen bees are handled. Baiba Tikuma will tell visitors all about the work of a beekeeper, and she will offer rapeseed, linden and buckwheat honey, along with flower pollen, “bee bread”, propolis and wax candles.

Kares, beekeeper

There are some 150 hives of bees on this farm, and the linden blossom honey which they produce has won prizes at a honey competition in the Latvian town of Rēzekne. An unusual type of honey is also available - honey from hogweed. Tours of the farm are available, honey can be tasted, apiary products can be bought, and wax candles can be made. “Extreme beekeeping” involves putting on a beekeeper’s uniform and dealing with the bees directly.

The Pastarins museum
Each spring visitors can take part in building wattle and other types of fences, to bake bread and rolls and to taste the results. In December – baking sklandrauši (a carrot-based pastry).
