![]() | Mezmuizas avoti |
The lime gully that emerged as the Baltic ice lake receded is crossed by the powerful streams of Mežmuiža, and the water from these streams contains a high concentration of lime salts. The water from the streams flows into a mill pond that has a very interesting colour. The sculptor Teodors Zaļkalns once lived in the travertine mill that is alongside the pond. Wood pathways have been installed for those who wish to visit the streams.

| Barbeles seravots |
Atrodas 2 km dienvidos no Bārbeles. Bārbeles avots, kas izplūst no seklas karsta kritenes, ir objekts, pie kura attīstījās viena no pirmajām Latvijas kūrvietām. Avota ūdeņu dziedinošais spēks bija zināms jau Kurzemes hercogistes laikā - 17. gs. vidū. 18. gs. pirmajā pusē Kurzemes hercogam Ernstam Johanam Bīronam (1690. – 1772.) radās ideja šeit uzcelt peldu māju, taču to neīstenoja. 19. gs. avota ūdenī samazinās sērūdeņraža koncentrācija. Neskatoties uz to, 20. gs. 20. gados te darbojās kūrvieta, kur ārstējas reimatisma slimnieki. |
![]() | Muizas (Leju) svetavots |
Atrodas ~ 0,4 km no Latvijas – Lietuvas robežas, Sventājas ielejas labā krasta nogāzē. |

| The Saltupju sacred stream |
The Saltupju sacred stream is 1.3 km to the Northwest of the centre of Aknīste, near the small valley of the Dienvidsusēja River. The stream has been known as a source for medical treatments since antiquity. It is said that streams which flow to the East always have medicinal water, particularly on Easter morning for those who rinse their eyes in it. The water contains iron compounds, which is seen in the brown sediment (the result of iron bacteria). Alongside the stream is a stone with a small indentation, and it is thought to have been a cult stone long ago. A sacred linden tree grows at the edge of the valley. The stream can be seen with good reason as one of the most outstanding streams in all of Latvia. |

One of the richest sources of sulphurous water in Latvia.

![]() | Raunas Staburags |
The Staburags cliff of Rauna has been Latvia’s most distinct travertine cliff since the great Staburags cliff of the Daugava River sank under the waves during the construction of a hydroelectric power plant nearby. The cliff is approximately 8,000 years old and is still being formed as lime settles on moss and other plants. The Staburags cliff of Rauna is cited as the only location in Latvia of the Alpine butterwort, but it has not been seen there for the last 15 years. That is probably because of the many people who tramp across the cliff each year. The streams which deliver lime to the cliff are a biotope that is of priority at the EU level.

| Aglonas Svetavots |
Atrodas 0,1 km austrumos no katoļu bazilikas. Jau no 1825. g. Svētavota ūdeni izmantoja dziednieciskiem mērķiem. Līdz 19. gs. 40. gadiem avota ūdens īpašības bija izslavētas tāpat kā Aglonas Dievmātes svētbildes brīnumdarītājas spējas. Tās savulaikapstiprinājusi Viļņas ārstu komisija un Pēterpils akadēmija, taču ap 1840. g. avots savas īpašības esot zaudējis. Tomēr arī mūsdienās svētceļnieki joprojām tic avota spēkam. |
